The Scientific Council (SC) is a collective body responsible for the scientific leadership of the Institute of Polymers, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IP-BAS), serving a four-year term. The current SC, consisting of 17 habilitated scientists, was elected during a meeting of the General Assembly of Scientists at IP-BAS held on May 18, 2020.

The SC determines the scientific policy of IP-BAS and approves the plans for research and educational activities of the institute, along with the reports on their implementation, in a joint meeting with the General Assembly of Scientists. The SC makes decisions regarding the announcement of competitions for academic positions, conducts elections, and makes recommendations for the dismissal of individuals occupying academic positions. It is also responsible for the enrollment and dismissal of doctoral students, the approval and release of doctoral supervisors, and the acceptance of doctoral research topics, among other tasks. SC meetings are public, except when the law stipulates otherwise.
